Where does this Panera allergen information come from?
Every Yes and May Contain on this page is copied from Panera's own Allergen Guide (Edition 1, valid for 9/2/2026), which Panera publishes as a PDF at panerabread.com. The guide lists 209 national menu rows in 12 sections. This site is independent and is not affiliated with Panera Bread. The copy was last compared with the guide on 2026-10-31.
Which allergens does Panera's guide cover?
Panera's guide names the 9 major allergens identified by the FDA: wheat (with gluten also included, though gluten is not an allergen), tree nuts, peanuts, milk, soy, egg, fish, crustacean shellfish and sesame. The printed chart has eight columns because fish and shellfish share one column, so you cannot tell from the chart whether an item has fish, shellfish or both. For soy, the guide notes that highly refined oil from allergenic sources is not counted as an allergenic ingredient, following the FDA.
What does "May Contain" mean in the Panera allergen chart?
It is the wording Panera prints in a cell when an allergen may be present in that item. The guide does not explain each case, so this page does not guess a reason. If you have an allergy, treat May Contain as a warning. The filter above hides items marked May Contain by default for that reason. For example, 12 items carry May Contain for peanuts and 1 carries Yes (Cookie - PB & J).
Which Panera items list no major allergens?
27 of 209 rows in the guide print "No Major Allergens Present", including Fruit Cup, Agave Lemonade, Americano, Hot Tea Bags. Most are drinks, syrup shots, sauces and dressings. Use the "No major allergens" quick filter on the chart to see all of them. That statement describes the recipe in the guide, not your cafe's kitchen, because Panera also says many products may come into contact with common allergens during production and preparation.
Does Panera have a gluten-free menu?
Panera's allergen guide does not mark any item as gluten free. It has a Wheat column that also identifies gluten sources: 126 rows list wheat as Yes, 7 list May Contain, and 76 list neither. "No wheat listed" is not the same as gluten free. The full row list, Panera's own wording and the cautions are on our Panera gluten free menu page (/panera-gluten-free-menu).
Which Panera items have no milk or dairy listed?
57 of 209 rows list no milk, either as Yes or May Contain, and 145 list milk as Yes. Switch on the Milk filter in the chart to see them. That includes plain coffee and tea, but drinks are not automatically dairy free: lattes and frozen drinks are listed with milk. The chart does not show how a drink is made at your cafe, so tell staff about your allergy when you order.
Which Panera items contain peanuts or tree nuts?
Peanuts are listed as Yes for only 1 row (Cookie - PB & J) and as May Contain for 12 more. Tree nuts are listed as Yes for 18 rows and May Contain for 20. Both lists are printed in full in the allergen cards on this page. Because Panera's guide covers tree nuts and peanuts separately, check both columns if you avoid all nuts.
Which Panera items contain fish or shellfish?
5 rows list the combined fish/shellfish column as Yes: Caesar with & without Chicken, Stuffer - Caesar with & without Chicken, Tuna Salad on Country Rustic Sourdough, Dressing - Caesar, Chicken Caesar Wrap. None is listed as May Contain. Since the column is shared, the guide does not say which of the two is present: even the Caesar with & without Chicken row only shows Yes in that column.
How many Panera items contain sesame, egg or soy?
Sesame is listed as Yes for 23 rows and May Contain for 47. Egg is listed as Yes for 92 rows and May Contain for 17. Soy is listed as Yes for 46 rows and May Contain for 21. These counts count each printed row once, so an item sold in two sizes is still one row.
Does changing my bread or customizing a sandwich change the allergens?
Yes, it can. Panera's note for sandwiches says the information is provided with the default bread choice, and that if the bread choice (or any other customization) is changed, the item may contain an allergen. The chart cannot show your customized order. As an example, the Frontega Chicken Wrap row lists Wheat, Milk, Egg, Soy, Sesame as Yes for the standard recipe only.
Why do the allergens in my cafe's app or website look different?
Panera says its menu varies by location, and its guide describes a cafe-specific ingredient statement on panerabread.com (the steps, written for the cafe manager, end at a "See All Ingredients" button on the item's page), and Panera's page says to ask a manager to check the ingredient listing. That listing is the better source for the exact item you are about to order. This page reflects the national guide only and is not updated by cafe, by customization or by the order customizer.
Are these allergens the same in Canada or other countries?
This page covers Panera's US national menu guide only. Allergen lists and recipes in other countries can differ, and some regions name additional allergens. Check the allergen information published for the country you are in.
Can I see calories and nutrition for these items?
Yes, for items that appear in both guides. Rows with a calorie button on the chart open a Nutrition Facts label for that item at its default size, using the same numbers as our nutrition table. Not every allergen row has a match in the nutrition guide: some items, such as sauces, dressings and extras, are listed for allergens only.
